I've hurt my back - too many hours sitting at the computer working on my project, followed by a jolt as I stepped down off the bus. Not much of a jolt but enough to put me out of action for a few days.
So yesterday we took a reasonable walk to our favourite market to give me some exercise and because I couldn't carry much, Paul enlisted the aid of a shopping trolly to get the goodies home.
He found a Velib rack, loaded a bike with our three Geelong Fresh Food shopping bags, pushed it all the way home and parked it in the Velib rack outside our apartment. You have to love this system!
Today, we ventured off to another market, this one near the the Gare de l'Este to see if we could meet up with Stephanie Alexander who Tweeted yesterday that she intended to go there today. Stephanie and I are well acquainted since I sat next to her at a Melbourne Food & Wine festival function.
Gare de l'Este means railway station of the East. We found the market close by but it had closed at 1pm. So no market and no Stephanie, but a pleasant walk home.
And on the way home something amazing happened - Paul suggested that he might like to buy a jacket. A jacket!?! Why would a man who insists on shorts and thongs in all weathers want to buy a jacket?
So we went into a few mens wear shops: €189, €340, €178. But strangely his enthusiasm didn't flag. Finally, at the op shop near Les Halles he found this beautiful dinner jacket. And it fitted. And it cost €15. And it goes well with shorts and thongs, don't you think?Needless to say he was pretty chuffed as you can see.
So off we went on our next errand - turned the corner - and ran into the army. What is the army doing in a surburban street at 4.00 o'clock in the afternoon, with machine guns?
Undeterred, we went to fnac, the huge electrical shop (like JB HiFi - but with no capital letters) and bought a €50 Samsung laser printer and a reem of paper.
No huge plastic shopping bags here. Carried it home by the very cunning, re-useable handle the shop assistant attached to the shipping tape.
Not quite sure how we will re-use the handle, but it is very clever.
